Edvin Tobias Bokvist Wrammerfors’s PhD Story

Knee joints bear the full weight of a lifetime of movement, yet the tissues behind this remain surprisingly difficult to study. This project explored whether techniques from large-scale research facilities - synchrotron phase-contrast tomography, neutron tomography, and quasi-elastic neutron scattering - could offer a clearer view of how cartilage and meniscus break down in osteoarthritis.

SwedNess awarded SEK 48 million to continue and expand established graduate school with strong industry collaboration

SwedNess has been awarded SEK 48 million from the Swedish Research Council to continue and further develop its established graduate school in neutron and synchrotron-based research for the period 2026–2028.

Eric Lindgen’s PhD Story

Colour is everywhere - in autumn leaves, glowing screens, and solar panels. But what is actually happening at the atomic level inside the molecules that produce it? Eric's PhD project tackled this question by combining machine learning with atomistic simulations, making it possible to model these systems with quantum-level accuracy at realistic scales. Neutron scattering provided the experimental grounding, and the work resulted in new tools that bring simulation and experiment closer together than ever before.
